The Indianapolis Colts are attempting to surge toward the playoffs and have received some good news regarding superstar running back Jonathan Taylor.

The explosive playmaker is recovering well from his thumb surgery according to head coach Shane Steichen, and NFL Network 's Ian Rapoport stated that Taylor could suit up as soon as the Colts' Christmas Eve matchup with the Atlanta Falcons.

Rapoport posted on X: “#Colts coach Shane Steichen told reporters that RB Jonathan Taylor is progressing well and will participate in the walk-through today (as he's done the last few weeks)... There remains optimism that Taylor will go this week, but he'll be evaluated on a daily basis.”

This is encouraging news as the Colts sit squarely in the AFC playoffs as the seventh seed. With great performances from fellow running backs Trey Sermon and Tyler Goodson against the Pittsburgh Steelers last week, the latter of whom was recently elevated to the 53-man roster, Taylor likely won’t be rushed out onto the field if Indy doesn’t feel he’s 100% ready.

Also, Zack Moss (arm) has voiced a desire to get back on the field for the pivotal game against the Falcons. That is still to be determined.

After finally getting the contract he wanted this season (three years, $42 million), Taylor will push to get back into the swing of Steichen’s offense as Indy is close to a completely unforeseen playoff birth.

On the year, Taylor has 100 rushes for 414 yards (4.1 avg.), as well as 16 catches for 137 yards and five TDs (4 rushing, 1 receiving).

Taylor’s presence greatly amplifies Steichen’s offensive potential. As the regular season comes to a close, the Colts will look to try and win out the remaining three games to solidify a postseason spot. Or, best case scenario, shock the NFL by winning the up-for-grabs AFC South title.
