Colts head coach Frank Reich tests positive for COVID-19 despite receiving vaccine

Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich has been vaccinated against COVID-19. However, the 59-year-old recently tested positive for the deadly virus, the team announced Monday.

Reich, who is asymptomatic, is in quarantine away from the team's facilities and will miss the start of training camp, which begins Wednesday.

Reich's positive test comes after the NFL said in a memo earlier this week that teams who have a COVID-19 outbreak among unvaccinated players will be forced to forfeit their postponed games if they cannot be rescheduled within the 18-week schedule.

The league also will fine unvaccinated players nearly $15,000 every time they violate COVID-19 protocols. Players are not required to be vaccinated, but all NFL Tier 1 personnel, including coaches, must have the vaccine.

After a steady decline in COVID-19 cases from April through June in the United States, cases are rising this month as the more contagious delta variant continues to spread. Indiana is seeing a rise in cases, according to WTHR, with 878 new cases reported on July 21.
