Colts not benching QB Philip Rivers

As ESPN's Mike Wells explained, Indianapolis Colts head coach Frank Reich told reporters on Monday that he has given "no consideration" to benching veteran quarterback Philip Rivers in favor of backup Jacoby Brissett despite Rivers' issues with turning the ball over.

"Philip is our quarterback," Reich said.

Rivers threw a pair of interceptions, one of which was returned to the house for a touchdown, and also committed a costly intentional grounding penalty in his own end zone that gifted the Cleveland Browns a safety and two points in Sunday's 32-23 loss to Cleveland. In total, the 38-year-old who signed a one-year contract worth $25 million to leave the Los Angeles Chargers for the Colts in the offseason has matched four touchdown passes with five interceptions.

Rivers turned the ball over multiple times in Indianapolis' losses to the Jacksonville Jaguars on Sept. 13 and the Browns on Sunday.

Per ESPN, Rivers is 22nd in the NFL in total QBR (59.0).

Rivers has a chance to get right this coming Sunday against the Cincinnati Bengals. While Cincinnati is last in the AFC North standings at 1-3-1, the Bengals only surrendered an average of 228.6 passing yards across those five games. However, only three teams allowed more rushing yards per contest than Cincinnati (159.0) through the first five weeks of the campaign.

Indianapolis is on a bye in Week 7.
