Colts owner Jim Irsay says NFL teams need a QB who can score 30 points or more

Carson Wentz is under contract with the Indianapolis Colts through the 2024 season, but the team hasn't made any guarantees that he'll be the starting quarterback next season. The latest sign that the Colts aren't happy with the current quarterback situation was a tweet from team owner Jim Irsay late Monday night.

A day after Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen lit up the scoreboard in a 42-36 overtime playoff win for the Kansas City Chiefs against the Buffalo Bills, Irsay underlined the need for an elite quarterback.

Irsay's tweet doesn't mention Wentz or suggest that the Colts don't have the ability to score 30 or more points in regulation. However, Indianapolis was held under 30 points in each of the last four weeks of the season and only scored 11 in a Week 18 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars that kept the Colts out of the playoffs.

Wentz finished the year with 27 touchdowns and seven interceptions, but struggled in the final two games of the season with a chance to make the playoffs. A few days after the season ended, Colts general manager Chris Ballard was unwilling to commit to Wentz staying on the roster for the 2022 season.
