Colts Pro Bowl RB Jonathan Taylor ruled out for Week 5 vs. Broncos

It was reported Monday that Indianapolis Colts All-Pro running back Jonathan Taylor had " a chance" to suit up for the team's Week 5 "Thursday Night Football" contest against the Denver Broncos, despite having suffered a sprained ankle the day before.

On Wednesday, the team announced that they won't end up having the services of the star 23-year-old for the upcoming clash of teams featuring horse mascots.

On top of the ankle injury that Taylor sustained during the team's Week 4 loss to the Tennessee Titans, he has also been dealing with turf toe, though that issue has been more minor. The 2021 Pro Bowler struggled against Tennessee to the tune of a season-low 42 rushing yards on 20 carries without a touchdown, while losing a fumble as well.

It was during the lost fumble that Taylor suffered the ankle injury.

The one missed practice last week for "JT" was his first missed session not only in his NFL career but dating back to before his high school days. He hasn't practiced at all this week.

Taylor played in all 17 games in 2021, pacing the league in rushing attempts (332), rushing yards (1,811), rushing touchdowns (18), longest rushing attempt (83 yards), rushing yards per game (106.5), and yards from scrimmage (2,171). Since a big Week 1 this season where he ran for 161 yards and scored his only touchdown of the campaign, he has struggled, gaining only 167 yards in his last three contests.

Taylor's next chance at a potential return to action will be in Week 6 when the Colts travel to take on the Jacksonville Jaguars at 1 p.m. ET on Oct. 16.
