Colts QB Carson Wentz out indefinitely with foot injury

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Carson Wentz is out indefinitely with a foot injury, according to ESPN's Adam Schefter and Mike Wells. He suffered the injury during Thursday's practice.

Wentz missed Friday's practice because of the ailment, and Jacob Eason took reps as the starter with Sam Ehlinger as his backup. Jalen Morton also participated in training camp.

The Colts acquired Wentz from the Eagles during the offseason in hopes he would revive his career alongside head coach Frank Reich, whom he worked with in Philadelphia in 2016 and 2017 when Reich was the team's offensive coordinator.

Reich said earlier this summer he was very confident Wentz could bounce back this year after an abysmal 2020 season. Now it appears he might not even take the field for Week 1.

The 28-year-old went 3-8-1 with the Eagles last season, throwing for 2,620 yards and 16 touchdowns against 15 interceptions before being benched in favor of Jalen Hurts.

With Wentz's status up in the air, it's unclear if the Colts will look to sign another quarterback. Blake Bortles and Robert Griffin III are among the free agents signal-callers still available.
