Colts QB Carson Wentz practicing, on track to play Sunday vs. Seahawks

Indianapolis Colts starting quarterback Carson Wentz told reporters last week he was "optimistic" about playing in this Sunday's regular-season opener versus the Seattle Seahawks at Lucas Oil Stadium after he underwent "very successful" foot surgery Aug. 2.

Wentz is heading in the right direction at the halfway point of the midweek.

Per NFL Network's Ian Rapoport and other outlets, Wentz will be a full participant in Wednesday's practice and, barring any setbacks, is on track to start Sunday afternoon.

It was initially said Wentz could miss anywhere from five to 12 weeks while recovering from the foot issue and surgery, but he's been trending toward playing in Week 1 since late August when he first started participating in on-the-field drills. Reports emerged as recently as Monday Wentz would be good to go by the weekend as long as he was able to take the bulk of the practice reps Wednesday and feel fine by Thursday evening.

Granted, there is still time for Colts head coach Frank Reich and company to change their minds after evaluating Wentz before Sunday afternoon, but it appears 2020 fourth-round draft pick Jacob Eason will remain a backup and spectator when Indianapolis hosts Seattle.
