Colts QB Philip Rivers (toe) missing practice only as a precaution

Indianapolis Colts quarterback Philip Rivers will miss some practice time ahead of a pivotal divisional showdown with the Tennessee Titans on Sunday afternoon.

Nobody should read too much into it.

Per the Around the NFL Staff, Rivers is dealing with a bruised toe that he suffered in last Sunday's overtime win against the Green Bay Packers and is sitting out of Wednesday's practice. However, Indianapolis head coach Frank Reich told reporters that his signal-caller, who turns 39 years old next month, could take the field ahead of Thanksgiving, if necessary.

Instead, Reich is resting Rivers days ahead of what is, to date, his team's biggest game of the season, as both Indianapolis and Tennessee will enter the final Sunday of November at 7-3 on the campaign.

The Colts defeated the Titans 34-17 back on Nov. 12, and Rivers connected on 29-of-39 passes for 308 yards with a touchdown in that prime-time game. He then went for 288 passing yards with three TDs and one interception versus the Packers.

Meanwhile, Tennessee followed the defeat to Indianapolis with an overtime win at the Baltimore Ravens last Sunday.
