As the Indianapolis Colts kick off their 2024 offseason, they have signed former Los Angeles Chargers pass-catcher Terrell Bynum to a reserve/future contract.
While Bynum only logged one game for the Chargers in his 2023 rookie year and was primarily on and off the practice squad, he does bring four years of experience from college where he played for both the Washington Huskies and USC Trojans.
During his collegiate years, the 25-year-old logged 36 games and caught 81 passes for 1,093 yards and seven touchdowns. He was also utilized in the ground game, carrying the pigskin seven times for 87 rushing yards (12.4 avg), showcasing his speed and ability to create when given space.
This is another opportunity for Bynum to possibly show wide receivers coach Reggie Wayne and offensive play caller Shane Steichen what he can do for a young Indy squad. As far as receivers, the Colts boast players like Michael Pittman Jr., Josh Downs, and Alec Pierce; the last of whom will need to bounce back after a drop-off in production in 2023.
It’s fair to say that Bynum won’t challenge any one of those three for their respective spots, but he might be able to carve out a role of some sort by the time training camp starts.
While Bynum more than likely will be strictly for depth purposes or a practice squad role, he could also be placed onto special teams if he can display enough speed and hustle as the off-season gets into full swing for the Colts.
