Commanders asking price for QB Jacoby Brissett absurdly high

While several teams look to bolster their rosters for the stretch run ahead of Tuesday’s 4 p.m. ET trade deadline, the Washington Commanders are presumably looking to cash in on a quarterback-needy team’s desperation.

According to SI.com’s Albert Breer, Washington is asking teams for a crazy return in exchange for backup QB Jacoby Brissett.

The Minnesota Vikings, who lost Kirk Cousins for the season with a torn Achilles, were one of the teams inquiring about Brissett before ultimately trading a sixth-round pick to the Arizona Cardinals for Joshua Dobbs and a seventh-rounder, per The Athletic’s Dianna Russini.

It’s not known how many other teams have called Washington asking about Brissett’s availability, but teams linked to quarterbacks ahead of the trade deadline include the Atlanta Falcons and the New York Jets.

A second- or third-round pick seems to be an outrageous ask for Brissett, a 30-year-old backup who hasn’t played a snap since Jan. 1 when he was with the Cleveland Browns. Dobbs’ late-round value may bring Brissett’s price down a bit if Washington does, in fact, trade him.

Brissett went 4-7 as Cleveland’s starter last year with Deshaun Watson serving an 11-game suspension. He averaged 237 yards passing per game with 12 touchdowns and six interceptions.

The Commanders signed Brissett to a one-year, $8 million contract in the offseason to compete with Sam Howell for the starting job. Howell won the competition during training camp and has started every game for the Commanders this year.
