The Washington Commanders ranked 27th in the NFL in rushing offense this past season, signifying their need for a better running back.

Brian Robinson has been a rather significant disappointment for the Commanders over his first two years in the league, and this past season, he rushed for just 733 yards and five touchdowns while averaging a pedestrian 4.1 yards per carry.

On top of that, fellow halfback Antonio Gibson is hitting free agency, so Washington really needs to add another backfield piece in support of Robinson, who may not be an every-down back.

Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox thinks the Commanders could take a look at Philadelphia Eagles breakout star D’Andre Swift, who is also getting set to become a free agent.

Swift played in 16 games this past season and racked up 1,049 yards and five scores while logging 4.6 yards per attempt. In addition, he caught 39 passes for 214 yards while reaching the end zone once as a receiver. He made the Pro Bowl for his efforts.

The 25-year-old will likely price himself out of the Eagles’ range in free agency, as Philadelphia typically does not like to splurge on running backs.

Could Washington throw its hat into the ring and try to nab Swift?

Knox is expecting Swift to land a three-year, $18 million contract, which is well within the Commanders’ range given the massive cap space they possess heading into the offseason.

Of course, the question is whether or not Swift can replicate his 2023 success, as he was running behind a terrific offensive line in Philly. Plus, the Eagles were full of weapons.

Washington, on the other hand, has not yet found its answer at quarterback and ranked 24th in offense overall this past season. That might make things tough for Swift, who was certainly not a household name before being traded to the Eagles.
