The Washington Commanders entered the NFL Draft with only five draft picks, a far cry from the 10 general manager Adam Peters had last year.

But there's a reason for that.

The franchise traded away picks to get All-Pro Deebo Samuel and five-time Pro Bowler Laremy Tunsil into the organization. That seems good, right? Two key offensive positions to upgrade for Jayden Daniels, who will enter Year 2 with huge expectations.

But there is a downside to trading away picks for players - you better be sure those players hit, and in Washington's case, give the team a great chance at winning a Super Bowl.

For CBS Sports' Pete Prisco, when naming the Commanders' best and worst draft picks, he has his eye on the future.

"It's not any one pick, but it's trading away picks to land veterans like Laremy Tunsil and Deebo Samuel," Prisco writes. "That's good for the short term -- and I like the trade for Tunsil more than Samuel -- but it can come back to haunt you later on."

Granted, there is merit to trading away picks and it coming back to bite you in a couple of years time.

But we offer this - if a Super Bowl is won, surely that is worth it.

Samuel is a one-year rental, and Tunsil is 30 years old, so the two key players they traded for could be off the roster in a couple of seasons. We think that this, along with the prospect of not adding youth to the roster while also aiming for a Super Bowl, is what Prisco is talking about here.

But the Commanders are in win-now mode, and aside from first and second-round picks, none are going to substantially change a position in a way that is needed for a deep playoff run.

So, Washington is all about the now, and will worry about the future later.

Whether that is a good approach is unknown, but if a Lombardi trophy is won, it would have been worth it. If the team misses out during their "window," then the haunting can begin.
