Commanders HC Ron Rivera on WR Terry McLaurin's contract situation: 'Just a matter of time'

Terry McLaurin has arguably been Washington's most lethal offensive threat since being selected by the franchise in the third round of the 2019 NFL Draft. Despite consistently playing with subpar quarterbacks and being surrounded by a less-than-stellar supporting cast on offense, "Scary Terry" has already racked up 222 receptions for 3,090 yards and 16 receiving touchdowns, while posting back-to-back seasons of at least 1,000 receiving yards.

McLaurin is in the market for a contact extension, and despite Washington brass reportedly being keen on keeping the 26-year-old with the Commanders "for a long time," nothing has happened yet. As the team has opened up voluntary workouts, the wideout is unsurprisingly not in attendance.

Washington head coach Ron Rivera doesn't appear to be losing any sleep over the situation, though.

In early April, shortly after fellow wide receivers like Stefon Diggs and Tyreek Hill had cashed in with big trades and/or contract extensions, it was reported that the Commanders hadn't yet made an offer to McLaurin.

The vertical weapon has led the team in receiving in each of his first three seasons. McLaurin finished 2021 with 77 catches for 1,053 receiving yards and five touchdowns on 130 targets.
