Commanders hire former longtime Eagles assistant Juan Castillo as TEs coach

After 10 years away from the NFC East, longtime NFL assistant coach Juan Castillo is returning to the division.

Castillo's football coaching career began at the college level in the early-1980s and extended into the mid-1990s with both high school and collegiate gigs. The 68-year-old joined the NFL ranks in 1995 with the Philadelphia Eagles and stayed with the organization through the 2012 campaign.

Castillo served as an offensive assistant with the team for two seasons and then the tight ends coach for one, before holding down the role of offensive line coach from 1998 to 2010. Castillo's final two years with the Eagles were as their defensive coordinator in 2011, and part of the 2012 season.

After being fired by Philadelphia, the Port Isabel, Texas, native was hired by the Baltimore Ravens in January 2013. Castillo was the Ravens running game coordinator for two seasons, before transitioning to be their offensive line coach from 2014 to 2016.

He then served as the running game coordinator/offensive line coach for the Buffalo Bills in 2017 and 2018, before becoming an offensive analyst for the University of Michigan during the 2019 season. Castillo was the Chicago Bears offensive line coach in 2020 and 2021.
