Commanders QB Carson Wentz placed on IR, will miss at least four weeks

On Saturday, the Washington Commanders placed quarterback Carson Wentz on injured reserve.

Last week, Wentz suffered a fracture to his right ring finger against the Chicago Bears on "Thursday Night Football". According to the team, Wentz underwent successful surgery in Los Angeles on Saturday and will be out until at least Week 11.

Wentz has had up-and-down results in his first season with the Commanders. The 29-year-old has led Washington to a 2-4 record in six starts, boasting a 62.1 completion percentage, throwing for 1,489 yards, 10 touchdowns, and six interceptions.

In Wentz's absence, the Commanders will turn to backup Taylor Heinicke

Heinicke made 15 starts last season, leading Washington to a 7-8 mark. The 29-year-old completed 65% of his passes, throwing for 3,419 yards with 20 touchdowns and 15 interceptions.

"I think because of the familiarity and the things that we do, it'll be an easy transition for us," head coach Ron Rivera said via the Commanders' website. "I think with Taylor, too, there is always that ability to run the ball. He's got a little bit of that in him, so it'll be interesting. The things that we'll do certainly will match his skill set."
