Commanders RB Brian Robinson isn't eligible for Comeback Player of the Year

It has been a long road for Washington Commanders rookie running back Brian Robinson Jr., a third-round pick from Alabama.

In August, the Commanders placed him on the non-football injured reserve list after he suffered gunshot wounds in his right leg during an attempted robbery. On Sunday, Robinson led Washington in rushing with 73 yards on 20 carries in a 23-21 win Sunday over the Green Bay Packers.

Robinson has been trying to get more comfortable with reps after recovering quickly from the injuries. An impressive run after contact Sunday showed what he can do.

Robinson formed a great duo with fellow RB Antonio Gibson, who rushed for 59 yards on 10 carries. Of the Commanders' snaps, Robinson played 35; Gibson got 29. RB J.D. McKissic, an adept receiver, played just 12 snaps.

"That's along the lines of what we've always envisioned," Commanders coach Ron Rivera said Monday, per Yahoo! Sports.

Robinson would be a great candidate for Comeback Player of the Year -- if he were eligible. As a rookie, he's not, per the Washington Times.
