The Washington Commanders are in need of a cornerback in free agency with the potential loss of Kendall Fuller.

Fuller, who just turned 29 earlier this month, is a free agent this offseason ... and according to The 33rd Team, he's the fifth-best cornerback on the market.

Fuller spent the first two seasons of his career in Washington after being drafted by them in 2016 in the third round before he was traded to the Kansas City Chiefs for quarterback Alex Smith in 2018. The veteran defensive back returned in 2020 after signing a four-year $40 million deal in free agency.

Given the presence of cornerbacks Benjamin St-Juste and first-round NFL Draft pick Emmanuel Forbes many people came into last season fully expecting it to be Fuller's last in Washington.

However, after a highly inconsistent season from St-Juste and a lackluster debut by Forbes, Fuller's stock may be higher than ever.

He's a little on the older side, but not too old, and his established role as a leader in the locker room makes him a perfect coach on the field for the new regime if he and they see eye-to-eye.

There are certainly some other options for the Commanders to pursue this offseason, but they won't find the combination of familiarity, experience, and rooted leadership Fuller brings anywhere else.
