The sale of the Washington Commanders moves towards the final stages of being official. According to The Washington Post, the NFL finance committee unofficially recommended the approval of the transfer of ownership from Dan Snyder to Josh Harris.

The NFL and Snyder reached a settlement to resolve legal issues that threatened to complicate the sale’s closing. Those issues were related to the email leaks in October 2021 that led to the resignation of Jon Gruden as head coach of the Las Vegas Raiders.

Snyder was seeking legal indemnification from the NFL pertaining to Gruden’s lawsuit against the league.

With a settlement in place, the finance committee will have an official vote on Thursday in Minneapolis. Then the NFL owners will vote to ratify the sale on Friday. At least 24 NFL owners must vote to approve the finalized sale.

Dan Snyder and a group of investors led by Josh Harris, including NBA Hall of Famer Magic Johnson, agreed to a $6.05 billion deal for the Commanders in May. Harris’ group includes more than a dozen limited partners.

The NFL, Harris, and Snyder hammered through concerns over the financing from Harris and legal issues during the past three months. The league called a special meeting for Friday to vote on the sale. The deal is in the final stages before Josh Harris becomes the Washington franchise’s fourth majority owner since the team was founded in 1936.
