After not selecting a quarterback in the NFL Draft this past weekend, the Washington Commanders signed undrafted rookie free agent quarterback Tim DeMorat out of Fordham. Initially, reports stated DeMorat had an invite to the New York Jets rookie minicamp. However, the Commanders were able to ink him into a deal.

“Grateful for the opportunity,” DeMorat tweeted on Monday.

DeMorat is a three-time Patriot League Offensive Player of the Year. He threw for 4,891 yards and 56 touchdowns last season — both are school and Patriot League single-season records.

Behind DeMorat’s arm, the Rams had a 9-3 record and reached the FCS playoffs for the first time since 2015. DeMorat was a consensus All-American. He finished his collegiate career with 1,032 completions, 13,454, and 123 touchdown passes.

Tim DeMorat told The Transfer Portal CFB, “I want to play in the NFL, so I’m going to train for that and see what happens. … It’s always been the goal, it’s always been the dream.”

Tim DeMorat joins Sam Howell, Jacoby Brissett, and Jake Fromm in the Commanders quarterback room. Howell was a fifth-round draft pick last year of Washington. Yet, he is pegged as the starting quarterback entering training camp. Brissett is the cagey veteran and insurance policy.

Fromm has been with Washington since last year, primarily on the practice squad. For now, his best shot to stay in Washington is to earn the nod as the practice squad quarterback over Fromm. That track starts in training camp.
