Washington Commanders have activated tight end Logan Thomas off the physically unable to perform list after passing his physical, the team announced Monday.

Thomas started training camp on the PUP list as he recovered from a torn ACL suffered in Week 13 of last season against the Las Vegas Raiders. The injury occurred when then-Raiders edge rusher Yannick Ngakoue anticipated a sift block from Thomas and went low, hitting the tight end in the knee.

Last season, Thomas was limited to six games. He dealt with a hamstring injury earlier in the season. He had 18 catches for 196 yards and three touchdowns.

His best season came in 2020, his first with Washington. He snagged 72 catches for 670 yards and six touchdowns in 16 games. After his big season, Thomas signed a three-year, $24 million contract extension.

Washington is hoping Thomas can get back to his 2020 form this season. He is expected to be the TE1 but the Commanders have added depth by drafting John Bates and Cole Turner in the last two seasons.

Thomas’ return comes at a great time, as the tight end room has been ravaged with injuries. Bates is dealing with a calf injury. Meanwhile Turner has been out with a hamstring injury. The Commanders also placed Sammis Reyes on injured reserve last week with a hamstring injury.

Washington added depth over the weekend, claiming Kendall Blanton off waivers from the Los Angeles Rams. Washington also signed Jake Hausmann on Monday while placing tight end Eli Wolf on injured reserve.

Undrafted rookie Armani Rogers has taken the bulk of the TE1 snaps the past two weeks. In two preseason games, Rogers has four catches for 27 yards.
