The Washington Commanders shook up their offensive personnel for Sunday’s game against the Philadelphia Eagles. After a 3-4 start to their season that included embarrassing losses to the hapless Chicago Bears and New York Giants, the Commanders needed adjustments.

Sunday’s adjustment included tight end Cole Turner getting a healthy scratch. Turner is inactive for the first time this season.

Turner’s playing time has decreased through the first seven games. He had played a mere 22 percent of Washington’s offensive snaps.

Turner has been targeted 12 times with eight catches for 82 yards. Starting tight end Logan Thomas has been healthy as of late and has been quarterback Sam Howell’s favorite tight end option with 23 catches, 236 yards, and two touchdowns.

John Bates has 83 receiving yards on eight catches, and Bates is a better blocker than Turner.

The Commanders activated fullback Alex Armah. Armah expects to fill in as the third tight end on select packages.

Washington selected Cole Turner in the fifth round of the 2022 NFL Draft. There were expectations of him emerging as a viable receiving option. However, he has ten career catches so far in 17 games.
