The Los Angeles Rams may have made a franchise-altering trade by landing Matthew Stafford in exchange for Jared Goff and some draft picks.

Stafford has Sean McVay’s offense humming and Cooper Kupp looks like the best receiver in football.

In fact, Kupp may be just that because of the specifics of his hot start.

Kupp is now the first player in the Super Bowl era with 800 yards and nine receiving touchdowns through seven games.

In fact, he has 809 yards after a huge game Sunday against the Detroit Lions.

Kupp went off for 156 yards and two touchdowns on 10 receptions to help Stafford move past the reunion drama.

Now the receiver’s sights are set on the overall NFL record.

Chasing History

The single-season record for receiving yards is 1,964.

Calvin Johnson posted that total in 2012 with none other that Stafford throwing him the ball.

The Lions finished at 4-12 this season.

Stafford is now looking to help another receiver make history and also make the playoffs at the same time.

Kupp has gone for over 100 yards on four separate occasions in 2021 and also has four multi-touchdown games.

To put this start into perspective, Kupp has finished a season with more than 1,000 yards just once in his career.

He would be on pace to shatter his personal best even if the season were still only 16 games.

Add in a 17th game and Kupp may easily break Johnson’s record.

The entire Rams offense is rolling as Stafford is up over 2,100 yards and even Robert Woods is off to a nice start with 423 receiving yards.

Yet the passing offense runs through Kupp and opposing defenses can’t seem to figure him out this year.

As long as he can stay healthy, no one may be able to stop Kupp now that he has a better quarterback throwing him the ball.
