Cooper Rush leads Cowboys to 23-16 victory over Giants.

Cowboys backup quarterback Cooper Rush upped his record to 3-0 as a starter in a 23-16 victory over the Giants on Monday night.

According to NFL Research, Rush is the first undrafted backup to win each of his first three starts and throw for more than 750 yards since Pro Hall of Famer Kurt Warner burst onto the scene in 1999.

Although he may not follow in Warner's footsteps, one can't deny that Rush has exceeded expectations replacing injured Dak Prescott, who head coach Mike McCarthy insists will remain starter.

Many wondered if disaster loomed when Prescott suffered a right thumb fracture in Week 1. However, Rush and the Cowboys' offense have done well.

A calm demeanor in two starts suggests he's a reliable option. This is important for a backup quarterback because chaos can ensue when they're suddenly thrust into a starting role

Rush probably had his strongest start so far against the Giants, a team that cut him twice. He completed 67.7 percent of his passes and threw a touchdown pass to CeeDee Lamb in the fourth quarter, securing the victory.

The Cowboys are 2-1, a promising start, especially with a QB who was not expected to be an important factor.
