The Falcons made one of the most high-profile draft day trades in NFL history when they moved up 21 spots to land Julio Jones.
Atlanta held the 27th pick and moved all the up to Cleveland’s 6th overall pick, with five total selections going to the Browns in the blockbuster deal.
To say the trade worked out for the Falcons would be an understatement; Julio Jones is a first-ballot Hall of Famer, and there could be a similar trade in the 2024 NFL Draft, according to Adam Schefter.
The Falcons are a prime trade-back candidate for any team that needs a left tackle or a receiver but so are the Cardinals. Marvin Harrison Jr., Malik Nabers, and Rome Odunze seem to be the candidates that a team would trade up for, and the list of potential suitors isn’t short.
The Jets, who own the 10h pick, need another wideout. The Bills, 49ers, and Chiefs also all need a receiver and could see one of those three prospects as worth trading a haul of draft picks for.
The only thing working against a possible deal is the receiver class as a whole. This is a very deep crop of talented pass catchers, as many as six or more receivers could go in the first round.
A lot of Falcons fans have written off a fourth consecutive skill player for the team, but they shouldn’t. If Rome Odunze or Malik Nabers is on the board, fans shouldn’t be surprised if they’re the pick.
Terry Fontenot has remained steadfast in his approach of drafting the best player available. It’s subjective, but I’d say Odunze and Nabers are much better overall prospects compared to any of the pass rushers that many mock drafts have going 8th overall.
