Could Blake Jarwin improve the Packers' tight end room?

The tight end position in Green Bay is not necessarily in need of help.

Tight end Robert Tonyan is reportedly "on track" to play in the team's season opener against the Minnesota Vikings. Elite run-blocking tight end Marcedes Lewis is back for his 17th NFL season. No. 3 tight end Josiah Deguara had a very nice rebound season (103.7 passer rating for QB Aaron Rodgers when targeting Deguara) after tearing his ACL as a rookie in 2020. Backup tight ends Dominique Dafney and Tyler Davis both can play important roles if need be. But Tonyan is the only dangerous receiving threat at tight end. A free agent like Blake Jarwin, who isn't commanding a massive free agent market, could be a pass-catching option for the Packers at tight end if they wanted to go that route.

Jarwin doesn't have the best stats. His best season of his five-year career came in 2019 when he caught 31 passes on 41 targets for 365 yards and three touchdowns. But the 6-foot-5, 265-pound tight end brings size and versatility, which is exactly what the tight end position is all about. Jarwin has done the dirty work, both blocking and receiving, in Dallas behind Dalton Schultz. Now, health is a bit of a concern. Jarwin has missed 39 games in five seasons, but the 27-year-old might just need a fresh setting. That's what he would be getting in Green Bay, especially because he would be the team's second-best pass-catching option at tight end.

If he came to Green Bay on a one-year deal, which is definitely possible considering the Packers have roughly $17M in cap space, he would have a career season. He wouldn't be a dominant Pro Bowl tight end, but he could easily record at least 400 receiving yards in Matt LaFleur's offense. His experience playing on a good team with a Pro Bowl quarterback in Dallas could prove to be a great asset on Lombardi Avenue.
