The Washington Commanders are in need of a bona fide tight end for their offense.

The team has Logan Thomas currently atop the depth chart, but he'll be 33 before next season and he isn't the type of player that is feared by the opposition.

New general manager Adam Peters was part of the front office that drafted San Francisco 49ers tight end George Kittle in 2017, and he's been one of the best at the position since he joined the league.

Here's a look at the rest of Peters' history in drafting tight ends with San Francisco ...

2017: George Kittle - 5th round (146)

2019: Kaden Smith - 6th round (176)

2020: Charlie Woerner - 6th round (190)

2023: Cameron Latu - 3rd round (101)

2023: Brayden Willis - 7th round (247)

Analysis: Kittle may be the most well-rounded tight-end in football, and a lot of the 49ers' success on offense has been because of his ability to block and catch. The two-time All-Pro tight end has had over 1,000 receiving yards and at least five touchdowns three times in his seven-year career.

Once Kittle was drafted, the Niners focused more on drafting blocking tight ends to complement the running game. The opposite is the case for the Commanders, they have a strong blocking tight end in John Bates; he needs a partner who can act as another big receiving target.

Versatility is likely what Peters is eying at the position, and he may be willing to wait for the right guy to land in his lap. Tight end is among the bevy of needs Washington has, so Peters taking one at some point should be expected in the 2024 NFL Draft.
