Could Ravens sign former No. 1 overall pick edge-rusher?

The Ravens may be in the market for a veteran edge-rusher as they round out their roster for the 2023 season and a former No. 1 overall pick is still available for the taking.

Jadeveon Clowney, the first overall pick by the Texans in the 2014 NFL Draft, is Pro Football Focus's best remaining free agent edge-rusher and Baltimore should consider signing him.

The 30-year-old is coming off a down season where he had just 28 tackles, two sacks and one forced fumble with the Browns. However, that will help his first-round caliber talent come at a cheap price.

The Ravens also still have plenty of funds with almost $10M in cap space.

Clowney would not only be a cheap investment but serve as a good insurance policy as well. With edge-rushers David Ojabo and Tyus Bowser missing significant time due to injuries in 2022, Clowney could fill in if either player were to get injured again or underperform.

Baltimore signed edge-rusher Justin Houston in July and August the last two offseasons. So, it wouldn't be surprising if the team made another late summer signing with Clowney being the latest example.

Clowney has been quite inconsistent throughout the entirety of his nine-year NFL career, but it's hard to say no to a low-risk, high-reward signing.
