After recovering from a groin injury to get clear for Sunday’s game against the Jets, Dallas Cowboys right guard Zack Martin suffered an ankle injury late in the game that made him questionable to return. Whether the team held him out because he was seriously injured or because they led by 20 points is unclear but he didn’t make it back onto the field before the final whistle.

The Cowboys dominated the Jets offensively and defensively in the 30-10 Week 2 victory even if Martin suffered an injury.

Despite the banged-up ankle, the All-Pro walked tall through the tunnel back to the locker room after the game with no assistance necessary.

Despite being an integral part of the Dallas offense, the right guard chose to hold out of training camp this summer in Oxnard. He argued that he wasn’t properly compensated after his six-year deal for $84 million began to lose its luster. The team wound up caving before the end of camp, increasing the All-Pro’s salary by $8 million over two years.

After the game, Cowboys team owner Jerry Jones told reporters that he doesn’t believe the injuries to Martin or to left guard Chuma Edoga are serious.

Chuma Edoga also questionable for Dallas Cowboys

Dallas Cowboys left guard Chuma Edoga is questionable to return to play on Sunday, the team announced at the start of the second half versus the Jets. The newcomer suffered an injury to his elbow during the first half.

Losing Edoga, who started in place of 2022 first-rounder Tyler Smith due to his hamstring injury, means the team had to move on to the third option at left guard.

Dallas called on undrafted rookie T.J. Bass to fill in at left guard after the half. He quickly paired up with Zack Martin to spring a block for Tony Pollard, leading to the running back’s biggest pick up of the day for 23 yards.

Edoga is a former third-round pick out of USC. The New York Jets snagged him in the 2019 NFL Draft.

With his elbow injury, it’s unclear if Edoga will be able to return to play against his former team. He was in and out of the lineup for New York over the course of his first three years in the league. He appeared in 23 games during that span. After the Jets released him, the Atlanta Falcons picked him up. He appeared in two games for the team in 2022.

Edoga played left guard for Atlanta before suffering a season-ending knee injury.

Dallas reportedly looked at signing him last offseason when Tyron Smith suffered a preseason injury. Instead, he ended up signing a one-year deal with the Cowboys out of free agency.
