Cowboys' Cooper Rush leads Cowboys on winning drive against Bengals

It was Cooper Rush time on Sunday. He engineered some late-game magic leading the Cowboys on six-play drive, in the final minute, resulting in Brett Maher’s winning field goal.

Rush played well throughout the game, throwing a touchdown and finishing with a passer rating of 95.5. He demonstrated poise on the last drive and turned a bad situation into a good one.

There were several questions surrounding the Cowboys' offense throughout the week. In Week 1 they were the only team in the NFL that didn’t score an offensive touchdown.

Rush was coming in for Dak Prescott who could miss six to eight weeks with a fractured right thumb. He wasn’t very experienced as a starter. He had one in his five-year career prior to this game.

Rush is now 2-0 as a starter. His calm demeanor helped control the offense, sparking big plays, giving the Cowboys a synergy they didn’t have in Week 1.

Wide receivers Noah Brown and CeeDee Lamb stepped up. Brown finished with a touchdown and Lamb had seven catches. Running back Tony Pollard bounced back as well, with a touchdown and 78 yards from scrimmage. The defense sacked Joe Burrow six times.

Although it wasn’t a perfect game because the Cowboys let an early lead slip, giving the Bengals a chance to win, Rush demonstrated an important asset a quarterback needs; the ability to stay cool under pressure.

It shows the Cowboys can trust Rush as a reliable option.
