Cowboys' Dak Prescott, Cooper Rush 'got a good laugh' over QB controversy comments

Dallas Cowboys owner and general manager Jerry Jones raised quite a few eyebrows when he said on Thursday he'd welcome a quarterback "dilemma" if it means backup Cooper Rush earning a handful of wins as starter Dak Prescott continues his recovery from the serious thumb injury he suffered in Week 1 on Sept. 11.

Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy made it clear on Friday that there will be no "controversy" and that Prescott will be his QB1 when the 29-year-old is cleared to return to action. Later in the day, Rush admitted the signal-callers involved were able to chuckle about the matter.

Per Todd Archer of ESPN, Rush told reporters Friday that he and Prescott "got a good laugh" over Jones' initial comments.

"I think he just wants to win games and that's what we all want to do," Rush said of the eccentric and outspoken owner. Rush added he "definitely [doesn't] dream as big as Jerry" as it pertains to what the 28-year-old will accomplish in Prescott's place.

"No, but just want to keep winning," Rush said coming off last Sunday's 20-17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals that improved the Cowboys to 1-1 on the season. "That's the goal. That's the plan. As long as I'm in there, that's my job. Rely on those guys on defense and our offensive line and receivers and play within the system and trust them and get the job done."

Rush started against Cincinnati and completed 19-of-31 passes for 235 yards and a touchdown in the win. He'll get the nod for the upcoming "Monday Night Football" matchup at the 2-0 New York Giants.

Jones suggested earlier this week that Prescott could be back in the lineup as quickly as Oct. 2 against the Washington Commanders depending on if the two-time Pro Bowl selection can adequately grip the football heading into that contest.
