Cowboys' Dak Prescott speaks about death of Mississippi State's Sam Westmoreland

The college football and sports communities continue to mourn the death of Mississippi State freshman offensive lineman Sam Westmoreland which was announced Wednesday. 

Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott, who was with the Mississippi State program from 2011 through 2015, spoke about Westmoreland's passing on Thursday. 

"My condolences go to his family and the Mississippi State program," Prescott said, as shared by Madison Williams of Sports Illustrated. "It’s sad. Any time a life is gone it’s a sad moment, especially such a young life. A freshman.

"The message for the team is to lock arms and understand we got to love each other. We never know when that receipt comes. Be where your feet are. Focus in on the moments. Love the people around you and don’t take anything for granted. Condolences and prayers with them."

Westmoreland was due to celebrate his 19th birthday on Friday. Per Drew Weisholtz of NBC's Today and TMZ Sports, Westmoreland was found at Blackjack Missionary Baptist Church in Starkville, Miss., late Wednesday morning. Officials haven't publicly released a cause of death but have said there is "no reason to suspect foul play" in the matter.

The No. 24-ranked Bulldogs play at the sixth-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide on Saturday.
