Cowboys' Dak Prescott throws 12 passes in 11-on-11 drills

Dallas Cowboys starting quarterback Dak Prescott has been limited in practices and kept out of preseason games because of the right latissimus strain he first suffered in late July.

According to Charean Williams of Pro Football Talk, Prescott participated in 11-on-11 drills on Wednesday for the first time since July 27 and completed 11 of 12 passes. The 28-year-old connected on one throw for a 30-yard gain.

"Dak looks really good. He’s throwing the ball with some pop," running back Ezekiel Elliott said of his QB1.

Prescott was originally hoping to face at least one live opposing defense this month while recovering from the compound fracture and dislocation of his right ankle he suffered last October, but head coach Mike McCarthy has already ruled the signal-caller out for Sunday's preseason finale against the Jacksonville Jaguars. As things stand today, Cooper Rush is the favorite to land directly beneath Prescott on the depth chart heading into the regular-season opener at the Super Bowl champion Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sept. 9.

Cowboys owner Jerry Jones said Tuesday during an interview with Dallas' 105.3 The Fan, per the team's website:

"We can do everything. We can do our complete portfolio as far as our offense is concerned with Cooper Rush. He's a little different, but still we can do everything. That's good. I've seen the time when the backup quarterback didn't allow you to do everything you wanted to do. That's really good there. We'll see how this game checks out with the competition here and then we'll make a decision this weekend."
