You know it's been a slow offseason when the are linked to the they just released a year ago. According to ESPN's Jeremy Fowler, and the Cowboys have “mutual interest” in each other, although a deal hasn't yet been reached.

As we all should know, Zeke spent his first seven seasons in Dallas before signing a one-year deal and playing for the New England Patriots last season.

A three-time Pro Bowler and a one-time first-team All-Pro during his time with the Cowboys.

He ended with 8,262 rushing yards and 68 rushing touchdowns, which both rank third on the all-time franchise list.

Such A Cowboys Thing

So let me get this straight, a year ago and the front office released Zeke to save some money on the cap.

The next year rolls around, they don't sign who they hoped to replace him with long-term moving forward, and now they have some interest in bringing Zeke back because this team is now broke.

More Production In The Draft

Look I'm just being honest here. Elliott led the Patriots in rushing yards with 642.

Yet that was a career low for him, as were his three rushing touchdowns and 3.5 yards per carry.

You can get that same type of production from a rookie in the draft or probably even Rico Dowdle.

If they want to bring Zeke back and he wants to come back to just being a guy that can pick up a first down, sure.

Other than that, this is the reason they released him in the first place, he has no production left.

If they don't draft a back, then that leaves them with Dowdle, Deuce Vaughn, Malik Davis, and Snoop Conner as the only running backs on the roster.

Vaughn had just 80 yards from scrimmage last season as a rookie, while neither Davis nor Conner recorded stats.

This is a disaster.

If that is the case, then it couldn't get much worse, but at this point, they might as well call Terrence Williams.

Rebuild In The Making?

With the direction this team is currently in, it sure feels like this team is aiming for a rebuild based on two players. and .

Jerry has walked back on his “all-in,” statement from just a few months ago.

The deeper we get into , and the longer 's contract issue remains unresolved, the higher the possibility exists that the team is in rebuild mode now.

They just don't have much room to make any other moves.

If they wanted to create cap space, they could, that is the issue I have with them right now.

If this team brings back Zeke, that's all we need to know. I am so over feeling numb about this football team and the lack of urgency they have to want to win again.

Why not give Dalvin Cook a call if you are going to look into bringing Zeke back?

was cut, so they don't have a WR3, or a RB1, if Lamb gets hurt this team is going to have absolutely no offense.

But don't worry, Jerry will still be able to host his weekly radio show, and every single network will talk about them on national TV, just like he wants.

Don't let Jerry fool you into thinking he cares about anything other than that at this point.

He probably does want to win another Super Bowl, but wants to do it HIS way.

And his way has been wasting Hall of Fame talent and others over the last 25 years and counting.
