A free agency target that was recently described as a possible "top fit" for the Dallas Cowboys is officially off the table as he recently signed with the Seattle Seahawks on Friday.

The player in question is offensive guard Laken Tomlinson, who could've made a lot of sense for a Cowboys team that has multiple needs up front as well as question marks about where All-Pro Tyler Smith will line up in 2024.

It's no surprise that the Cowboys aren't the team inking Tomlinson to a deal considering how frustratingly passive they have been in free agency this offseason. However, it's noteworthy considering the team's needs and the fact that people considered them a potential landing spot for the Pro Bowl lineman.

In fact, ESPN's Bill Barnwell named the Cowboys as the best fit for Tomlinson in March, who spent the last five seasons with the San Francisco 49ers before starting his career with the New York Jets. Below is Barnwell's breakdown of his conclusion, noting Tomlinson's size could help Dallas at an area of need:

With Tyron Smith leaving Dallas for Tomlinson's old team to take over as Aaron Rodgers's left tackle, the Cowboys have a hole on their offensive line. If Dallas wants to move 2022 first-round pick Tyler Smith from left guard to left tackle, Tomlinson could step in at guard, where his size would be a plus for a team that failed to impress in short-yardage and goal-line situations a year ago. - Bill Barnwell, ESPN

All of which is a moot point as he'll the NFL veteran will be taking his talents to Seattle.

Ultimately, the news works as a reminder that the Cowboys could be much more proactive in the way they're building their roster ahead of the 2024 NFL season. Yet they seem to pushing all their chips into their 24th overall pick, which is largely expected to be an offensive line even though we're still over a week away from hearing they're on the clock.
