The Dallas Cowboys have given La’el Collins permission to seek a trade, according to a report.
Collins is scheduled to make $10 million per year over the next three seasons but has a $15.25 million cap hit in 2022. Dallas is looking to save some money against the cap and plans to get rid of Collins.
Before releasing him, the Cowboys are giving Collins permission to seek a trade first, which would allow him to keep his current contract intact.
Dallas is likely hoping that Collins and his agent can find someone to take on his contract. If they can’t find a taker, Collins would account for $13.95 million in dead cap money for 2022 if the Cowboys were to cut him.
Collins, 28, played in 12 games last season. He missed time last year due to a suspension and missed all of the 2020 season due to a hip injury.
