Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy: 'Dak is our quarterback'

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones caused quite a stir on Thursday when he seemed to suggest that Dak Prescott could have to battle for the starting quarterback job with Cooper Rush upon his return from injury.

On Friday, Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy threw cold water on that idea.

Earlier this week, Jones said that Prescott could make an earlier-than-expected return from his thumb injury — possibly as early as Week 4. In place of the two-time Pro Bowler for the tail end of Week 1 and all of Week 2 has been Rush, who helped lead Dallas to its first win last Sunday.

Rush finished the Week 2 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals 19-for-31 with 235 passing yards, one touchdown and no interceptions, along with a 95.5 passer rating. The 28-year-old led the team on a six-play drive in the final minute of the fourth quarter to set up Brett Maher's game-winning 50-yard field goal as time expired.
