Cowboys HC Mike McCarthy: 'Plan' is for QB Dak Prescott to 'practice and play'

It appears that Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott is on track to make his return to the lineup for the team's Week 9 contest against the Denver Broncos. Prescott was limited in Wednesday's practice session with his calf injury, and on Thursday morning, head coach Mike McCarthy gave an update on the two-time Pro Bowler.

After playing in every regular-season game to start his career, Prescott suffered a compound fracture and dislocated right ankle in the Cowboys' Week 5 game against the New York Giants in 2020. The 28-year-old was placed on injured reserve and missed the rest of the 2020 campaign.

In six games this season, Prescott has recorded 1,813 passing yards and 16 touchdowns against just four interceptions while posting a league-leading 73.1% completion percentage. The Cowboys are 6-1 and atop the NFC East standings.

In addition to the updates on Prescott and lineman Tyron Smith, McCarthy said that wide receiver CeeDee Lamb sprained his ankle during practice on Wednesday and would be limited on Thursday. McCarthy added that tight end Blake Jarwin, who is dealing with a hip injury, has been "slow to come back" and wouldn't practice on Thursday.

The coach also had news on wide receiver Michael Gallup and tight ends Jeremy Sprinkle, Sean McKeon and Dalton Schultz, all per Dallas Morning News reporter Michael Gehlken.

The Cowboys are scheduled to play the Broncos at 1:00 p.m. ET on Sunday.
