Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott has become a pretty polarizing figure in the NFL. While many have lauded him for his abilities on the field and his character on and off it, plenty don’t seem to believe in his ability to deliver in big games or big moments.
He failed to come through in crunch time of Dallas’ Week 9 contest against the defending NFC champion Philadelphia Eagles, but he threw for 404 yards and four touchdowns last Sunday in a 49-17 rout of the New York Giants.
But while some aren’t bullish on Prescott, controversial and brash Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is still behind him. In fact, Jones says he should even be in the conservation for the NFL regular season MVP award.
“I do, I certainly do,” Jones said Tuesday on KRLD-FM in Dallas when asked if he believes Prescott is an MVP candidate. “He’s put together a series of games that are the best in his career. It’s the fact that he’s doing them back-to-back. Boy, he’s really in a position where it’s not only physical but mental.”

With Prescott at the controls, Dallas has a 6-3 record, and he has a league-best 70.7 percent completion rate and has thrown for 2,415 yards and 17 touchdowns through nine games.
But while his team has made quick work of its inferior opponents this year, the knock on it and Prescott is the fact that it lacks wins against quality opponents.
In Week 5, it got destroyed 42-10 by the San Francisco 49ers as Prescott threw three interceptions in what some called arguably the worst game of his career. Two weeks before that, the Cowboys lost to the Kyler Murray-less Arizona Cardinals, 28-16. It was the only win in nine games Arizona had this season before Murray returned this past weekend from a torn ACL.
Right now, the favorite to win the MVP award is Patrick Mahomes of the Kansas City Chiefs, who won it last season. Right behind him, or alongside him, is Jalen Hurts of the Eagles.
Prescott and company will get another chance to make a statement against Philly in Week 14 when the two teams will face each other once again, this time in Texas. Jerry Jones will be hoping to see his team prove that they can defeat one of the NFL’s elite in that contest.
