Hot on the trail of free-agent WR Odell Beckham Jr. last week, Cowboys owner Jerry Jones appeared to cool it during a Tuesday interview with KRLD-FM in Dallas.
"As of this morning, we don't have anything. The reality is time is moving on down the road to playing in the playoffs, so every day diminishes our chances," Jones said.
Jones' attitude on the subject is a shift. He recently told USA Today's Jarrett Bell, "Odell is going to join us."
Perhaps Jones believes signing Beckham Jr. is impractical and his addition wouldn't improve Dallas' offense.
On "The Shop," LeBron James' alternate "Thursday Night Football" show, the 30-year-old wideout recently said he only wanted to play in the playoffs.
At this stage in the season, that's nonsensical. What team would want a player going into the playoffs without regular-season playing time?
It's not like the Cowboys (10-4) desperately need OBJ. Through 14 games, they rank third in scoring offense, averaging 28.1 points.
No. 1 Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is having an outstanding season. According to ESPN's Ed Werder, he has 21 receptions of at least 20 yards, third most in the league, behind Justin Jefferson (Vikings) and Tyreek Hill (Dolphins).
OBJ isn't a difference-maker. The Cowboys should move on.
