Cowboys owner Jerry Jones dismisses idea of taking duties from HC Mike McCarthy

The Cowboys have perhaps been the most inconsistent team in the NFL this season, recording three impressive victories by a combined score of 108 to 13, but also two losses by a 70-26 count. Dallas opened the campaign with back-to-back routs of the New York Giants and New York Jets by scores of 40-0 and 30-10 respectively, before suffering one of the biggest upset losses in the league thus far, falling to the Arizona Cardinals 28-6.

McCarthy and company rebounded in impressive fashion in Week 4 with a 38-3 home win against the New England Patriots before falling to the 49ers on Sunday. The Cowboys will travel to take on the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 6 in what projects to be a high scoring on "Monday Night Football," before taking their bye week.

Dallas had season-lows in points, first downs (eight), total yards (197), passing yards (140) and rushing yards (57) against a terrorizing San Francisco defense, while recording four of their five turnovers on the year.

Quarterback Dak Prescott had easily his worst game of the year, going just 14-for-24 with 153 passing yards, one touchdown and three interceptions for a 51.6 quarterback rating. Last year's interception leader had thrown only one pick over the first four games this season.

For what it's worth, the Niners are considered by many to be the best team in the NFL (or at least top-three with the Kansas City Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles) and the Cowboys' Week 5 task was doubled in difficulty with the contest being on the road. The Dallas offense may have gotten the most negative publicity coming out of Sunday, but their defense wasn't much better.

They allowed season highs in points, first downs (25), total yards (421) and passing yards (251) and allowed three touchdown receptions alone to star tight end George Kittle.
