Cowboys QB Dak Prescott (calf) limited in practice ahead of Broncos game

Dallas Cowboys head coach Mike McCarthy said earlier this week that starting quarterback Dak Prescott was on track to be "full go" for Thursday's practice coming off the strained right calf he originally suffered on Oct. 17 that kept him out of this past Sunday's win over the Minnesota Vikings.

The Cowboys officially listed Prescott as limited for Wednesday's session, but that doesn't necessarily mean he's any less likely to face the Denver Broncos this Sunday.

"Just really how he comes out of today’s practice," McCarthy explained about how they'll evaluate his QB1 during the midweek, per Josh Alper of Pro Football Talk. "It’s no different than any player once he goes through the release to play through the rehab process. So he’s crossed that hurdle. He has a certain number of reps he’ll take today and we’ll evaluate in the morning."

McCarthy's approach is understandable considering Prescott originally planned to play at Minnesota before he experienced soreness in his calf after last Thursday's practice and was ultimately ruled out. 6-1 Dallas is the only NFC East team with a winning record and holds a three-and-a-half game lead over the Philadelphia Eagles in the division standings, so seeing if backup Cooper Rush can earn a second consecutive victory in Prescott's place may ultimately be the best approach for McCarthy and company.
