Cowboys scout's son taken by team with sixth-round selection
In one of the best moments in NFL Draft history, the Dallas Cowboys selected running back Deuce Vaughn out of Kansas State with the No. 212 overall pick.
Vaughn just so happens to be the son of Cowboys scout Chris Vaughn, and as you can imagine things got a little emotional. After the selection was made, his father was visibly shaken by the moment in the Cowboys' war room.
Before making his way over to the phone to call and congratulate his son with the team, Chris is seen hugging both Stephen and Jerry Jones.
Chris scouts over 350 players for the Cowboys each season, but Cowboys vice president Will McClay asked him to sit this one out.
"I appreciate them doing that, Not that I think it would have been an issue, but we just took that part of the scenario out," Vaughn said in an interview with ESPN staff writer Todd Archer
Deuce was one of the most productive running backs in all of college football over the past three years, totaling 3,604 rushing yards, 1,280 receiving yards and 43 total touchdowns in his Kansas State career.
With that type of production you would expect him to be drafted a little earlier, but standing only 5-foot-6, teams were reluctant to use an early pick on him due to his size.
Very similar to another Kansas State football legend Darren Sproles, Vaughn figures to make an impact in all areas of the game. He is a very capable receiver out of the backfield and despite his size, he can hold his own in pass protection.
Another feel-good story from this year's draft, that might be one of the best in the history of the events broadcast.
