Per NFL Network 's Ian Rapoport, the Dallas Cowboys (6-3) signed former first-round pick, Rashaan Evans, to the 53-man roster on Saturday. It is definitely a corresponding move in line with the aftereffects of Leighton Vander Esch's season-ending neck injury.

The former first-rounder is trying to get back on the NFL track

Evans joined the Cowboys in mid-October and started last week's 49-17 win over the New York Giants in Week 10. He played 28 defensive snaps and recorded three total tackles in the contest, which is the most action he's seen all year long.

The defensive staff obviously saw enough to where they feel comfortable adding him to the active roster. That, and he's out of practice squad elevations, as well.

The Cowboys currently have just two off-ball linebackers on the roster in Markquese Watts and Damone Clark, so they need the depth. It will provide Evans with an opportunity to log some reps and get some game film out there for other teams to see.

The former Tennessee Titan and Atlanta Falcon certainly has full-time starting potential. He started all 17 games for the Falcons defense in 2022 and recorded 159 total tackles, 2.0 sacks, six tackles for loss, three QB hits, two fumble recoveries and a forced fumble.

2023 has been kind of a strange year for Evans, his biggest highlight being when he asked the Philadelphia Eagles to terminate his practice squad contract after joining the team four days beforehand. Maybe his new opportunity with the Cowboys will get him back on the NFL track.
