The Dallas Cowboys, you will recall, went straight "Emily Post'' when talking about the release of Ezekiel Elliott, not wanting to insult him with a low-ball offer and not wanting to kick a good man while he's down ...

Which led to team officials suggesting Zeke might return to The Star, which we can tell you is absolutely not the plan.

And now the Cowboys are taking a very similar approach on T.Y. Hilton.

We asked a team source about the viability of a return to the roster for Hilton, who jumped off the couch late last season and successfully filled a void in the wide receiver room.

The answer: "T.Y. is not a priority at this time.''

See? Very mannerly!

As always, with Zeke and T.Y. and anybody else, we always caution you (and ourselves) about the Never-Say-Never part of roster-building. Hilton fit ... and the four-time Pro Bowler, who will be 34 next fall, could probably fit again in a pinch.

But the plan? The Cowboys supercharged the wide receiver spot this offseason by trading for former Texans receiver Brandin Cooks. He’ll sandwich in as the No. 2 guy between the Pro Bowler CeeDee Lamb and the (hopefully) bouncing-back Michael Gallup.

Knowing that the team really wants to make the Jalen Tolbert commitment work out ... and that's not even counting the possibility that Dallas drafts another wideout in a premium round in this NFL Draft ... and there's just no reason to move on another backup right now.

No insults here, and hopefully no hurt feelings. But "not prioritizing'' is a lovely way of saying "no.''
