Cowboys TE Dalton Schultz reports to minicamp

Like a host of other NFL teams, the Dallas Cowboys opened up mandatory minicamp on Tuesday. Despite plenty of uncertainty heading into the week, it looks like tight end Dalton Schultz will be joining his teammates this week.

The Cowboys placed the franchise tag on Schultz in early March, and even though the two sides haven't yet reached an agreement on an extension, both quarterback Dak Prescott and head coach Mike McCarthy don't seem concerned about the issue. Something that could perhaps impact contract talks between Dallas and Schultz is the team's decision to release fellow tight end Blake Jarwin in March.

The Cowboys have spent the past four seasons with both Jarwin and Schultz on their roster, and between the 2018 and 2019 campaigns, the former hauled in six touchdown receptions in the regular season and went for nearly 700 receiving yards combined, while Schultz stepped up during his ex-teammate's injury absences in the past two years with 12 receiving scores and over 1,400 yards gained through the air.

Schultz ended the 2021 season tied with Amari Cooper for the team lead in touchdown receptions (eight), was one catch behind CeeDee Lamb for the Dallas lead in receptions (78), and tied Cooper for second in targets (104) and third in receiving yards (808).
