Cowboys WR Brandin Cooks quickly shuts down concerns

In an offseason for the Dallas Cowboys that featured plenty of chatter about a potential signing of wide receiver Odell Beckham Jr., the team went in another direction for a splash at the position. This came via trade with the Houston Texans, as the Cowboys acquired 29-year-old wide receiver Brandin Cooks.

Following the trade, fans are now in wait-and-see mode on what Cooks can bring to the table, but as The Athletic's Jon Machota revealed, the explosive receiver sounds more than ready to make an impact.

Cooks said that he brings the ability to "be dynamic" to the Cowboys. When asked if he still has a 4.3 speed in the 40-yard dash, Cooks quickly laughed the question off, saying "no question, no question" before shutting down any concern over his age slowing him as well.

Cooks was acquired from the Texans for a fifth-round draft pick in 2023 and a sixth-round draft pick in 2024 after the wideout had requested a trade. He wanted no part of a rebuild in Houston.

Cooks is a highly productive player, having caught 57 passes for 699 yards and three touchdowns last season. In each of the two years prior, he surpassed 1,000 receiving yards and scored six receiving touchdowns.

Cooks will pair well with one of the NFL's young rising stars in WR CeeDee Lamb, along with Michael Gallup, who's expected to be back to full health this season after returning from a torn ACL that ended his 2021 season.
