The initial 53-man roster comes with surprises, of course, because it is on the initial 53.  Davis Webb for example was cut after a stellar offseason, but the reality is that as a veteran, he does not have to go on waivers and is likely to sign back with the team given the relationship with Daboll and familiarity with the offense.

Darius Slayton is possible on the roster as trade bait since he still may have some market value.

The Giants as of now hold 12 linebackers, with Quincy Roche being the only noticeable name missing. That is likely to change as they pick up players in places of need, such as cornerback off of the wire.

Current 53-Man Roster

Waiver Wire & Free Agents

The Giants are fifth on the waiver wire behind the Jaguars, Texans, Lions, and Jets making it possible for the Giants to improve their depth with some quality youth. Signing the veterans as free agents will be a little harder with the team’s limited cap space.  Of course some of these veterans will return to their teams once players are put on the Injured Reserve List.  For a player to be put on the IR they need to be on the 53 man roster. There for cuts like former Giant’s corner back Logan Ryan might just be temporary before returning to the Bucs.

The Giant’s might seem set at running back but newly freed Marlon Mack could still be an upgrade considering he had a 1,999 yards and 17 touchdown season before tearing his Achilles in 2020.

Phillip Lindsay and Duke Johnson are two other RB’s now on the market.

Tight ends O.J. Howard and Ryan Izzo are names that could intrigue the Giants that has no experience at the position currently.

In a cap cutting move the Jaguars released defensive tackle Malcom Brown who has the 6th best run stuffing tackle last year with at least 100 snaps, and the Giant’s could you better depth there.

Giants May Need to be More Concerned With Rush Defense Than Pass Rush

Former first round pick Alex Leatherwood did  not develop as hoped for Las Vegas and has been released. He will probably be a priority waiver pick up and wont likely even make it down to the Giants at five.  Veteran left tackle Julie’n Davenoport has been released by Chicago and could be an up grade to the depth chart. Jason Spriggs released by Indianapolis is also now available but doe does not come with the same resume.

Once again Josh Gordon is available but with his history, it would be surprised if the Giant’s took interest.  Mohammed Sanu is also available but does not fit the Giants youth movement.

Besides Ryan there does not seem to be a lot of help to be found at cornerback. Malcom Butler was cut but he is 32, presently injured and likely has no interest playing form anyone but the Patriots.
