So much blame and hate have been spread around the Dallas Cowboys fanbase over the last week. Fans (rightfully so) have been demanding answers as to why the Cowboys once again choked in postseason play. Most of these fans have been pointing fingers at the one and only, Dak Prescott.
Quarterback Prescott had an astonishing performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers during the 2023 Wild Card matchup.
Seeing this side of Prescott made fans confident that the Cowboys could have a shot at getting to the Super Bowl. However, this idea would be shot down due to the next week's result.
The San Francisco 49ers would get the better of the Cowboys and win 19-12.
So what happened?
While I have stated in other articles how I believed it to be head coach Mike McCarthy's fault, many fans disagree and blame Prescott for the loss.
This type of criticism from fans is never good, and the Cowboys will have to act fast when deciding on what they should do. Does the coaching staff listen to fans and move on from Prescott, or do they give him another chance to be a hero and successfully lead the team to a Super Bowl?
The answer seems simple, get rid of him and move on to another quarterback, right?
No, there are many considerations that fans must accept before requesting such a drastic change.
Which quarterback will you replace him with? At the moment there are no good quarterbacks for the upcoming NFL Draft, and the free-agent pile is somewhat empty at the moment.
You could always try to grab Tom Brady or Jimmy Garoppolo for next season … no. So, there's the Cowboys' first problem if they decide to get rid of Prescott.
While I have talked down about Prescott in the past, I have also stated how he is one of my favorite quarterbacks to ever play football. I love his character and he is a good quarterback overall with some tune-ups here and there revolving around his skill.
Seeing him leave would be a huge change for not only fans of the Cowboys, but fans of the NFL as a whole.
Prescott has gotten the Cowboys out of trouble before and he can do it again. Don't get me wrong, Prescott is still 100% on the chopping block right now, but telling him to pack up his things this early in the year is a bad idea.
Yes, this would give the Cowboys more time to look for a quarterback but you'd still want to have Prescott on your team just in case one doesn't show up.
It's hard to believe it, but Prescott deserves another year, his consistency sucks and he needs some therapy to get past that mental hump he's had for the last few years when it comes to big games.
Yet, I want to see Prescott back next year because I know he has what it takes to get the Cowboys to the Super Bowl. We will see what the Cowboys staff has in store for him, but at the moment, he belongs with the Cowboys.
