After going two games without turning the football over, Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott officially put the offseason narrative about him to bed on Sunday. The quarterback in his eighth year has put last season and his league-leading 15 interceptions behind him after notching 40-0 and 30-10 wins against the Giants and Jets.
“It’s something I’ve left,” Prescott told reporters after the game, via Clarence Hill. “The interceptions, I guess when you lead the league it will never go away.”
“To be candid, I really don’t care about the questions about them at this point,” he added while dressed in a vibrant pink and navy suit.”
So far this season, Prescott has 398 yards with 71% completions and two passing touchdowns. He’s also taken just one sack.
Keeping the turnover column empty on offense through two games this season is the first time in franchise history for Dallas. The Cowboys are one of just five teams in the league to achieve the feat this season. Now, it’s about keeping it up.
“We’re here to dominate,” CeeDee Lamb said after the game. “We’re not here to play around. We understand what’s at stake, week in and week out, and we’re constantly preparing ourselves to be the best team that we can be — offense, defense and special teams. Every week that we come out here, we wanna be better than last week.”
Cowboys defense leads league in takeaways
On the other side of the ball, the defense has been on a tear. After recording seven sacks, two fumble recoveries and two interceptions against Daniel Jones and the Giants in Week 1, the Cowboys defense added another fumble recovery, three interceptions and three sacks against the Jets.
The Micah Parsons-led defense has allowed just 10 points to start the year. Their scoring margin, according to NFL research, is the second-best through two games in franchise history.
Cornerback Trevon Diggs, the recipient of one of the three interceptions on Sunday, believes the biggest change to the defense this season has come from the big guys up front.
“It changed the way that we play,” Diggs said Sunday. “I feel like when our front seven is really activated and really pushing in, [the ball] has to come out faster. They have different routes. Early in the game when we had a lot of pressure, they started max protecting. They have to adjust.”
“Just putting them in positions to make them throw. We want them to play our game, which is them throwing the ball in the air and us getting interceptions.”
The Cowboys have another Sunday afternoon date this weekend, this time with the Arizona Cardinals. Arizona is 2-0 and fresh off of a 31-28 loss to the Giants.
