Although Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott have stayed in contact and continue working out at Prescott's home, it shouldn't mean anything for Dallas yet.

Prescott has a 55-yard turf field at his house in Texas.

At an event on Wednesday this week, he said Elliott had been part of a workout earlier in the day on that field.

“That's my best friend,” Prescott said. He says they will continue to work out together, at least until maybe Zeke finds his new home.

Elliott has yet to sign with a team after being released by Dallas on March 15th of this year.

Like myself, I am tired of hearing about Zeke in the news in terms of just working out.

He is doing what he needs to stay ready when his next team calls, but just because he and Prescott are still working out doesn't mean Zeke is returning.

With the way the Dallas depth chart looks now, if Zeke wants to take a lesser role and be a grind-it-out type of back for less money, sure.

Ronald Jones is the biggest running back the Cowboys have on the roster.

Jones's best season in the NFL came in 2020 while a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, rushing for 978 yards, 5.1 yards per carry, and seven touchdowns.

It's not like he can't be a solid No. 2 back for Dallas, just need someone who doesn't mind throwing a block once or twice.

Jones is only 25-years old also, which is nice. Five years of experience.

Dallas has no player that can be a blocking running back unless they use a package set, etc.

What's Next?

Well, not only is Zeke still around for a team to take a chance on, but so are the likes of Davlin Cook, Kareem Hunt, and Leonard Fournette.

I wouldn't pay what Cook wants, but if Fournette wanted to be a third down and goal line back, who says no?

He could be a great blocker in this offense and pick up tough yards.

Tony Pollard has reportedly been said to be ready for training camp, but I keep saying this.

Mind over matter. It takes time to get fully committed to these injuries.

You have to gain the trust to make all the football moves again. The leg might be 100%, but you are in trouble if your mind doesn't trust it yet.

We saw it with Michael Gallup last year. You could tell he didn't want to do anything possible to reinjury that knee.

So with all that said, this Zeke back to Dallas talk can rest for now.

He will probably work out with Prescott and others until he finds a new team.

Training camp starts at the end of July, so if Zeke plans to play this season. It would probably be wise to try and sign with a team by then.

Bottom line is the Dallas Cowboys still need a running back that can help block.

If they don't add anyone, my guess is that they stick with what they have and hope it works.
